Where to buy Metcards

Metropolitan tickets

Not all Metcards are available from ticket machines. Once you’ve decided what kind of Metcard is best for your travel needs, find out where each ticket type is available.

Metcards can be purchased via the following sources:

→ Metcard retail outlets
→ The MetShop
→ On public transport

 Metcard retail outlets

 1. Visibility
Metcard retailers are easily identified by Metcard branded items such as the blue Metcard flag in the window. Whenever you see these signs, you know that you can purchase Metcards.

 2. Availability of Metcards
Metcard retailers are required to stock 90 per cent of the core range of Metcard tickets at all times.

Retailers are expected to plan ahead to maintain Metcard stocks, taking into account the five working days it can take to deliver an order to a retailer, as well as an order frequency limit (one every one - two weeks). These processes help ensure a cost-effective Metcard retail network for all Melburnians.
