Switching from Metcard to myki
myki money and myki pass are valid for travel on all metropolitan train, tram and bus services including V/Line services in Zone 1 + 2 to Melton and Sunbury.
myki is also operating on regional bus services in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour, Warragul and the Latrobe Valley and is also valid for travel on V/Line rail services operating wholly within the Geelong (between Lara and Marshall), Bendigo (between Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat) and Ballarat (between Wendoree and Ballarat) transit systems. For more information, see regional town bus ticketing.
myki will progressively be rolled out on V/Line train services from Melbourne to Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and the Latrobe Valley (Traralgon, Morwell, Moe). Keep visiting this website for updates.
You can choose to use either Metcard or myki to travel on Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses. The existing Metcard ticketing system can still be used and will run alongside myki until December 2012.
You can continue using Metcards until advised otherwise, or you can make the switch to myki when you feel comfortable. The number of myki sales and top up outlets will gradually increase until this time.
There will be an extensive public information campaign before Metcard ends. However you are encouraged to make the switch to myki when you feel comfortable and use any Metcards you may have before making the switch.
The table below illustrates the various Metcards customers have been using, and what is the most suitable myki option.
