
1. What is a journey planner?
A journey planner is a tool that allows you to plan a journey on public transport between an origin and destination. Metlink's Journey Planner provides multi-modal information about all train, tram and bus services in Victoria.
2. What services are included in the Journey Planner?
The Journey Planner is continually being updated. As part of its evolution, new routes and features are continually being added.
Journeys can be planned between stations or stops, or from address to address, or to and from landmarks. You can also click on a map to define an origin or destination.
The following public transport services are included in the Journey Planner:
- Metropolitan train
- Metropolitan tram
- City Circle tram
- Metropolitan bus
- V/Line rail and coach
- Skybus city to airport
- Telebus services
- Interstate services to/from Melbourne
- NightRider services
- Regional town bus services

4. Does the Journey Planner provide information about regional and metropolitan services? If customers live in the country, will customers be able to get information about services?
Yes, the Journey Planner includes all Melbourne train, tram and bus services as well as V/Line train and coaches. It also includes regional town bus services.
5. Can the Journey Planner provide real time information about services?
Real time information is not currently available for the Journey Planner. The Journey Planner contains the latest available timetable information provided by the public transport operators. This is updated regularly and in future will be updated on a daily basis. However, up-to-date service alterations will be provided in the 'Service alterations' area on the right hand side of the Journey Planner pages and on the Metlink website.
6. Can I print or email the information about services from the Journey Planner?
Yes, you are able to print the Journey Planner information using your internet website browser. A trip plan can also be emailed to any valid email address.
7. Can I get SMS information from the Journey Planner?
Not at this stage. Metlink are investigating the potential of delivering information via SMS in a future version of the Journey Planner. Currently, customers are able to receive SMS timetable information from Connex.
8. I have special needs and mobility requirements. Can the Journey Planner tell me where lifts/escalators are? Does it tell me which vehicles are accessible?
Information about mobility and special needs requirements is available on the Metlink website. The Journey Planner has accessibility criteria available on the 'More Options' screen. Low-floor vehicles and platform stops/ramps can be chosen as part of the journey planning function and a factor in finding the best journey.
9. I walk very slowly. Is the Journey Planner able to accommodate my requirements?
The Journey Planner software allows you to select slow, medium and fast walking speeds. These correspond to 2km/h, 4km/h and 6km/h. The public transport journey will include calculation of walking distance between public transport stops/stations.
10. Can I download timetables from the Journey Planner?
No, but we are currently upgrading our sytem to offer downloadable, up-to-date route and stop specific timetables. On the Journey Planner, you can access journey-specific 'Leg timetables'.
11. Is the Journey Planner compatible with screen readers (JAWS) or other software used by vision impaired passengers?
Yes, Metlink adheres as far as possible to the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 under the Discrimination Act 1992 and complies with existing accessibility standards (i.e W3C Accessibility Standards).
12. Who do I contact if I find something wrong or strange when using the Journey Planner?
If you find a discrepancy in the information received from the Journey Planner, you can fill out the customer feedback form available on the Journey Planner website.
Metlink welcomes all feedback to help further develop the Journey Planner for public transport users.
