Travel On

Travel On is a public transport education program that helps Victorian primary school teachers educate students about safe and appropriate use of public transport services and facilities
The three components of Travel On allow children to link experiences in the classroom with real-life practice, supported by encouragement from families and carers:

Teacher Guide

The Travel On Teacher Guide provides classroom activities and support materials for primary school teachers.
The Teacher Guide includes:

  • year level activities for students, including Moving On Up activities to prepare Level 4 students for independent travel
  • resource pages to support classroom activities
  • eight A4 colour photographs of transport scenes with teaching tips on the back
  • places to visit using public transport in Melbourne.

Visits from Public Transport Education Program teachers

Trained Public Transport Education Program teachers are available to visit schools for 45 minute interactive sessions with groups of up to 35 students. Sessions include:

  • information about safe and responsible travel behaviour
  • information to prepare students for a school excursion using public transport
  • issues children face as they become independent public transport users
  • advice about crossing the road to get on or off a bus or tram and crossing railway tracks.

Support for school excursions using public transport

Public Transport Education Program staff can assist with travel advice and some subsidised travel.
