Metlink Great Transport Race
|
The Metlink Great Transport Race (GTR) gives students in years 7-10 the chance to do some real-world learning about safe and responsible public transport travel and how to get to key attractions in their area. About the event Using trains, trams and buses, students set out on an Amazing Race style adventure in teams of four students and one adult supervisor. Strategy and teamwork are key in this fast paced competition as teams race to reach various pit stops located at historic, leisure and cultural attractions. Using maps and timetables, teams attempt to reach as many pit stops by public transport as possible and make it back to headquarters before time runs out. At each pit stop teams must answer a question, take a photo or complete an activity to earn a time advantage. At the end of the race the team that visits the most pit stops in the best time will be crowned the champs. The Metlink GTR is a fun and engaging experience that helps students learn the ins and outs of Melbourne's extensive public transport network. Once they discover how easy it is to use, they will have the confidence to get around independently, instead of relying on mum or dad for a lift. The event takes place in the first half of the school year. To see all the action from the 2011 Metlink Great Transport Race:
