1. What is the special event ticket deal?
For certain events, ticket holders are entitled to unlimited travel on Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses on the day that their event ticket is valid.
Event organisers apply to offer event tickets inclusive of public transport travel.
If your event ticket includes public transport travel, details will be printed on the ticket.
2. My special event ticket says that it includes public transport travel. What does that mean?
Your event ticket entitles you to unlimited metropolitan train, tram and bus travel on the day the special event ticket is valid. The offer is only valid on the date shown on the ticket and you must carry the ticket with you at all times when using public transport.
3. Do I need to carry a valid Metcard on the day of the event?
No, you only need to carry your event ticket with you when travelling on trains, trams or buses on the day of the event to be eligible for free travel.
4. What happens if I get off at a City Loop station and don’t have a Metcard to get through the barriers?
If you arrive at a station with ticket barriers, staff will be available to approve your ticket and let you through the ticket barriers.
5. Does my event ticket allow me to travel on V/Line services?
No, event tickets included in the deal only entitle you to travel on metropolitan train, tram and bus services.
6. How does the special event ticket deal work for organisers?
Event organisers can apply to provide event ticket holders with unlimited travel on Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses on the day that their event ticket is valid.
Public transport costs can either be incorporated into the overall ticket price or covered by the event organiser.
The application is submitted to the Department of Transport for approval by the Director of Public Transport. It is up to event organisers to make an application.
7. Does it cover all events?
No, it is up to event organisers to make an application to offer event tickets inclusive of public transport travel.
