1. How do I find my timetable?

You can search for route, line and stop-specific timetables in timetables.

Or to perform a quick search, use the 'timetable search' box in the right-hand menu of this page. This box is available on most pages of the Metlink and Viclink websites on the right-hand side.

For a route / line timetable, simply enter the details into 'route / line search' and click 'go'. You can enter a suburb, town, route name or route number.

OR

For a stop-specific timetable, enter the station or stop name, into 'station / stop search' and click 'go'.

Hint: if you don't know the name of your tram stop or bus stop, check the full route timetable.

Once you've clicked 'go', you will be provided with a summary of timetables which match the details you entered.

2. What timetables are available on this website?

Timetables for the following services in Melbourne and regional Victoria are available on this website:

To access a timetable, simply click on 'Timetables' on the homepage, select one of the above public transport services, choose the direction, time period and day you wish to travel, and then click 'go'.

3. I prefer the timetables displayed at trains stations and tram and bus stops. Are these available online?

Yes. These are called stop-specific timetables and are available for download on this website.

To find your station or stop's timetable first go to the timetable for your line or route, then select your station or stop from the list along the left-hand side of the page for a printable PDF version of your stop-specific timetable and a profile of your station or stop including contact details and a list of facilities.

For more information, see What is a stop specific timetable?

4. How up-to-date are the online timetables?

When a timetable change occurs, public transport operators provide Metlink with the information which is updated on this website as soon as possible. To find out if your timetable is up-to-date, make sure the time period is current for your selected route or line.

Remember to check the news section regularly for information about upcoming timetable changes or service changes. If your route or line is or will be affected by service alterations, a notification is displayed under 'Service updates' below your selected timetable.

5. Why are there sometimes multiple time periods to choose from when I search for my timetable?

If a timetable will be changing either for a short time or permanently in the near future and the timetable information is available, you can choose to view it by selecting your line or route, your direction of travel and then your preferred time period in the 'Period' drop down menu highlighted in question 4.

6. Why isn't my stop shown on the route timetable?

The website automatically condenses the stops on tram and bus routes. Only major stops are displayed. If you cannot find your stop, simply the positive sign (+) next to the stop names to expand the list of stops.

For more information, see What are major stops, minor stops and timing points?

7. What are major stops, minor stops and timing points?

The online route timetables display major stops and minor stops. Minor stops only become visible when you click the positive signs (+) beside major stop names.

Tram and bus services will not depart earlier than the time listed for a major stop. However, this rule does not apply for minor stops so always arrive at your stop in advance of the scheduled arrival time. Minor stops are only the estimated time a service will travel between major stops.

Most major stops are timing points. The service waits at this point so that it runs to schedule. Minor stops are only the estimated time a service will travel between major stops.

To avoid missing your service, allow plenty of time to get to the train station, tram or bus stop before the service is scheduled to leave.

8. Can I get a list of departure times for my train station, tram stop or bus stop?

Yes. Stop-specific timetables are available for download on this website. For more information, see What is a stop-specific timetable?

9. Can I download the online timetables?

Full timetables for your train line or tram or bus route, including the departure times for every station or stop on that line or route, are available as PDFs for download and printing.
