In the summer of 2009, Metlink and the State Library of Victoria teamed up to encourage commuters across the state to get into BookCrossing, an international book sharing movement. Metlink released 100 books onto the public transport network for passengers to find, read and pass on. Metlink Bushrangers Community Cricket Days create a fun environment for young Melbourne cricket fans to learn about public transport. FedFest |

Metlink proudly sponsored FedFest, an outdoor short film festival at Federation Square held in March 2009. One lucky winner received $1000 cash for the 'Metlink Best Cinematography' award judged by Mandy Walker, the cinematographer on Baz Luhrmann's, Australia. FedFest is a free event and is easy to get to by catching public transport. Making a short film requires meticulous planning and execution. Melbourne International Jazz Festival (MIJF) |

Presented in association with Metlink, the Choir of Hard Knocks joined forces with Kate Ceberano and Carl Riseley to perform the songs of Billie Holiday at Hamer Hall on Wednesday, 29 April 2009. Melbourne jazz fans were swept away by this extraordinary performance, proudly supported by Metlink. City venues from the brand new Melbourne Recital Centre to Federation Square and the historic Melbourne Town Hall, came alive from 26 April - 2 May and jazz duos and trios played finger snappin' tunes for commuters at train, tram and bus locations around the CBD. Circuz Oz

To celebrate 30 wonderful years of performance, Metlink first partnered with Melbourne's world-renowned contemporary circus, Circus Oz, in 2008. With Metcard deals offering ticket discounts to see their latest death-defying acts, catching public transport to the big top at Birarrung Marr was encouraged. Metlink again joined forces with the famous troupe for 2009's 'Barely Contained', another outstanding show full of nail-biting feats that had audiences hovering on the edge of their seats. Forever BarbieTM Exhibition |

Barbie celebrated 50 years as the world's favourite fashion doll in June 2009 and Metlink jumped on board to join the festivities. Metlink's partnership with Barbie was an excellent opportunity to encourage greater public transport travel by families to events during off-peak times. Street Count 2009 |

Metlink supported StreetCount 2009 through the provision of Metcards for the second count of people 'sleeping rough'. Metlink supplied 120 Metcards to people who participated in the survey. The purpose of StreetCount is to gain a better understanding of the needs and aspirations of people who are homeless in Melbourne. The count will help the City of Melbourne to plan, develop and make decisions about appropriate long-term solutions for homelessness. Northern Bullants |

Metlink encourages footy fans to travel by public transport when they cheer on the NAB Northern Bullants in Victorian Football League matches at NAB Oval and Visy Park. Both grounds are easily accessible by public transport and through an attractive Metcard offer fans were able to get free entry at nominated games plus access to a host of promotions and giveaways. Enthusiastic kids and adults took part in Metlink's handball competition at Preston Central's Runaway to the Oval event hosted by the Bullants at NAB Oval on Saturday, 28 February 2009. Melbourne Writers Festival

For the second year running, Metlink supported the Melbourne Writers Festival, a nationally and internationally acclaimed festival that sees around 300 writers come together to share their stories with emerging and experienced writers. Through Metcard advertising and a Metcard deal that offered festival tickets at a discount, Metlink encouraged public transport travel to attend the many and varied presentations, debates, masterclasses and workshops from 21 - 30 August 2009. The festival's main program was located in Federation Square, which is well serviced by trains, trams and buses making travel to and from events a breeze.
