Bendigo Metro Rail Project

About the project

Bendigo Metro Rail aims to deliver a commuter train service for Bendigo, with an increased number of services running from Epsom, Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat to Bendigo.

The Victorian Government has committed $2 million towards the Bendigo Metro Rail project. This investment will provide the vital support the region needs to progress the public transport aspirations for Bendigo.

Taskforce recommendations

A Community Consultative Taskforce was established to oversee consultation and prepare recommendations for consideration by the Minister for Public Transport.

The recommendations are informed by extensive community consultation and input from the largest public transport users in Bendigo. These include the City of Greater Bendigo, Bendigo Hospital, Bendigo Bank, La Trobe University Bendigo Campus and representatives from the school community.

Over 600 community submissions were received and helped to inform the development of the taskforce recommendations.

After several months of undertaking community engagement and receiving technical and operational advice from transport agencies, the taskforce handed a recommendations report to the Minister for Public Transport on 7 August 2015.

The taskforce's proposed recommendations are staged.

The taskforce has therefore recommended to the Minister for Public Transport that the Victorian Government's $2 million investment be provided for delivery of Stage One works.
