PTV would like to thank the community and key stakeholders for their ongoing feedback and support throughout the project.

Project description

Geelong Station has been upgraded to improve accessibility between platforms and provide station facilities which are accessible for all people.

The upgrade included the installation of lifts and stairs to connect Platforms 1, 2 and 3 and improvements to station facilities such as ticket counters and toilets, to meet the requirements of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport.

Through consultation with key disability groups in Geelong, a roof which was not originally in the scope of the project, was also installed to ensure all customers can safety cross between platforms whilst being protected from the elements.

Project benefits

The upgrade to Geelong Station was part of the Victorian Government's commitment to Geelong being the home of the National Disability Insurance Agency.

Works included:

  • a new pedestrian bridge (including roof) with lifts and stairs to provide better connectivity between the south end of platforms 1,2 and 3
  • a fully accessible ramp at the north end of the station for safe crossing between platforms in case of an emergency
  • upgraded toilets and station facilities to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act
