Fare evasion surveys are conducted by PTV in May and October each year to measure the rate of fare evasion on the public transport network.
Victorian Official Fare Compliance Series: May 2015
The May 2015 fare compliance survey covered the three metropolitan modes of train, tram and bus as well as V/Line train services.
Metropolitan network fare compliance is at 95 per cent. This is the highest recorded level of fare compliance since fare evasion data began being captured in 2005.
The survey results show the number of people paying their way has increased across all modes, except for metropolitan buses, which remained steady at 91.3 per cent of customers having a valid ticket.
The rate of fare compliance on metropolitan trains is 97.3%, of metropolitan train users, 95.3 per cent on trams and 95 per cent on V/Line trains.
